Irons in the fire and all that

I finally finished a proposal that will serve as a launching point for the seminary’s marketing strategy. While I probably won’t post it until I get to meet with Dr. Blackaby (in about an hour-and-a-half), I can tell you a little about it and the rationale behind it.
As I posted recently, the real foundation for the marketing plan rests in the seminary’s vision to plant 1,000 churches by the year 2020. I’ve gotten to talk not only with professors about this vision, and some of the ways I’d like to see it implemented into the seminary, but I’m constantly amazed at what God has already been doing around me to make all of this come to pass.
I ran into three students who were being ordained in the next week. All three of them were church planters in Calgary. One was planting an international church plant, which was beginning to see growth; another was planting a church in a new and growing middle-to-upper-class housing area; and the third was planting a Vietnamese church in a very concentrated area of Calgary, where he was struggling quite a bit.
In talking with them, I knew that God had been working through all of this: my initial vision back in 2000; my work with Destiny Place, where I learned about servant evangelism in the first place; my time at Cox Advertising; and our time at Burkhalter Baptist Church.
Everything is just coming together fantastically — and supernaturally, I might add. God is really working in all this. I’m really excited about my meeting this morning, and what God is going to do through this school.
I know this has to be one of the most vague entries I’ve made in awhile. Maybe after my meeting, I can give you more detail.
In other news…
Macromedia will soon release Studio MX 2004…just after I purchased Studio MX, no doubt. Why do I even bother trying to stay current? I mean, come on, people!
It does look pretty cool, though. I’m anxious to try out Dreamweaver’s new “robust CSS support.” I’ll be glad to see that upgraded. While they’re doing a pretty good job of it now, I’ve always preferred to hand code because I wasn’t always sure what I was getting in the click and select CSS boxes.
I want to hear more about Flash MX Professional as well. It sounds like they’re making it work a bit like Director with all the talk about video. Todd Dominey probably puts it best. He tires a bit when thinking about keeping up with the new skills-honing time that goes into a new app with new features. I’m impressed with how Flash is handling video now. I hope the upgrade will prove it’s worth the money.
Also, for those of you with a CSS/XHTML bent, Jakob Nielsen, the guru of web usability, has given blessing to a redesign contest, sponsored by BuiltForTheFuture. Basically, those inclined to web design can submit their redesigns of the awkwardly simple Nielsen site, and the winner will get much props and prizes, which include books, software and cool stuff from Veer.
Also, Dan Cedarholm at Simplebits has a cool new effect for zoomed rollovers without any preloading. I’m guessing this has a bit to do with the new DOM (Document Object Model), but I’m not sure. It just kind of sounds familiar that way.
