The Edge website…

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2003

I just finished a beta for The Edge website: the Burkhalter Baptist Youth Group site.

I hand-coded the whole thing using BBEdit Lite for my CSS and Dreamweaver MX for my XHTML.

Let me just say that Dreamweaver is…um…like…um…a DREAM.

It’s a fantastic application, that puts out some really great code. If you’re hoping to use valid XHTML Transitional, this application gets all the information in the head accurately, as well as avoiding putting any extraneous code into what you’re doing. Of course, I was hand-coding the thing, so it really wouldn’t have mattered that much for this project.

It was great to see, though, that Dreamweaver would just about accurately represent some of the more obscure selectors and rules in CSS1 and CSS2. While it didn’t get it down to what you’d see on the web, it was at least close…um…at times. It at least gave me a pretty good reference point.

The page would probably validate if the youth group wasn’t using the TagBoard message board at the right. I like the functionality of it, but I’m still going through the validation procedure on that. It’s not a bad thing at all…and I think the kids really like it. Shouldn’t hurt the page too much…

Well…other than that…let me know what you think. Hope you like the site!

Oh, and many thanks to Dan Cedarholm at SimpleBits for the CSS mini-tabs you see reference in my CSS. Great little lightweight navigation…and very easy to both add to and subtract from!!
